Where it does better

  • Organic cotton: grown without synthetic pesticides or GM seed. In the 2026 Textile Exchange cotton study the freshwater toxicity of organic cotton is roughly a hundredth of conventional.
  • Printed in Brisbane and posted domestically: the printed garment travels a few hundred kilometres by road, not 16,000 by air.
  • Water-based Kornit inks, direct to garment. The Print Bar ships in FSC certified kraft mailers and recycles its soft plastics.
  • Printed after you order it. No stock, no markdown pile, nothing unsold. Across Europe about one garment in five is never sold (EEA, 2024).

Where it falls short

  • Sewn in Bangladesh and shipped to Australia before printing. It is printed here, not made here.
  • AS Colour publishes the factory and the fibre but not a GOTS licence number for this tee, so we do not claim one.
  • Organic cotton does not use less water. Water use depends on where the cotton is grown and whether it is irrigated, not on the organic label. We do not claim otherwise.
  • The blank itself is mass-produced and held in stock by the maker and the printer. Made to order removes our unsold stock, not theirs.
  • No measured carbon figure per garment yet. We publish one when we can stand behind it.
  • No repair or take-back scheme yet. When you are done with it, it is on you to pass it on.

What we are changing

  • Get the garment-level organic certificate from AS Colour in writing, then name it here.
  • Find an Australian-sewn organic blank. None exists on our printer today.
